What can a person do to strengthen their immune system?


Hands-down, the best way to keep your immune system functioning
properly is to get quality, consistent sleep every night. A solid
diet will also help substantially. Avoid alcohol, especially when
you are at higher risk of infection (e.g. when you're unable to
get 8 hours of sleep).

There is some evidence that Vitamin C supplementation is helpful, particularly if you don't spend a lot of time outdoors.

If you want to prevent the flu, getting vaccinated goes a long way. The vaccine can only target a handful of strains that are predicted to be the most common over the coming year, but efficacy is generally good in healthy adults.

In short, your best bet for staying healthy is to provide your immune system with everything it needs to function properly. Quality sleep, a healthy diet, limited alcohol intake, and perhaps Vitamin C supplementation. Beyond that, let your immune system do its job.
